I use Coconut Oil to clean my mouth and whiten my teeth...
Right now you are probably thinking about leaving this page, because you are probably assuming that I'm a nature loving, tree hugging, hippie... but I'm not... not yet at least :D
(and yes in case you were wondering, I still brush my teeth everyday haha!)
My Aunt introduced me to oil pulling about 6 months ago, and at the time I was so confused and sorta intimidated by the entire process. Even after reading countless websites, I never found a great step by step guide. Therefore I wanted to write this post for you all!
So please enjoy my (non hippie) easy to follow guide of oil pulling.
Let's start out with the basics,
Why do I oil pull???
How do I oil pull?
Before reading please remember, that I am not an oil pulling expert so you might read different things on different articles and blogs, this is just my personal method of oil pulling. If you are oil pulling for a medical problem, please talk to a health professional.
oil pull before eating, drinking, or brushing my teeth.
Normally I oil pull right when I wake up in the morning.
Measure about a tablespoon-ish of coconut oil.
Quick tip: if the texture of coconut oil grosses you out, I suggest starting with about 2 teaspoons and work your way up.
btw, I love viva brand coconut oil!
Set your timer for around 20 minutes.
Warning before you begin: You probably will not be able to talk to others during this time, so I would suggest learning some sign language ASAP.
Put the coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around for the full 20 minutes.... even typing that sounds really gross, I'm sorry.
If you don't like the taste or the texture of coconut oil (seriously though, who does?!) this might be pretty challenging in the begining ... hang in there though, it will get easier with time.
Once the twenty minutes are up spit the old oil into a bag... or a cup... or anything else just whatever you do, DO NOT put it down the drain! This can cause some sort of plumbing problem, not quite sure what problem though.
(Remember I'm a beauty blogger... not a plumber, haha)
Rinse out your mouth with water (or salt water if you're an overachiever)
Brush your teeth as normal.
Step 8 (optional, but it will happen):
Stare and smile in the mirror for a good twenty minutes debating if you notice any difference yet haha!
After doing this a few times you will start noticing a difference (even if it is small!) Not only will your teeth look shinier and whiter, but your gums will feel cleaner and look healthier!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading this, If you enjoyed this post or you are interested in beauty at all, please subscribe above or comment any ideas and tricks for others!
I hope you have an outstanding day, filled with lots of white and bright smiles! =D
